CEO, Imaging & IT Division
Born on April 16, 1969 in Munich, Germany
On January 1, 2008, Dr. Bernd Montag was appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Imaging & IT Division of the Siemens Healthcare Sector.
Having studied physics at Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg in Erlangen, Germany, Montag did a doctorate in theoretical particle physics at this university from 1993 to 1995. During this period he was also employed as a research assistant by the Institute of Theoretical Physics of Friedrich-Alexander University.
He rejected a research post offered to him by the Finnish University of Jyväskulä in favour of a professional career with Siemens Healthcare.
Montag started his career with Siemens Healthcare (formerly: Medical Solutions) in 1995. Until 1997 he held a staff function as an in-house consultant in the quality and processes department and for the two subsequent years switched to the sales department of Siemens Audiology Solutions (formerly: Audiological Engineering GmbH). The following two years, Montag was employed as a product manager in the Computed Tomography (CT) Business Unit of Siemens Healthcare (formerly: Medical Solutions) and was responsible for the first multi-slice computer tomographs. From 2001 until 2004 he assumed the role of marketing manager in the Magnetic Resonance Business Unit, where he played a decisive role in designing several product launches and in the successful campaign for the "Tim" technology (Total imaging matrix). Tim is a new procedure allowing high quality whole body imaging with just one scanning process. Montag then became Head of the CT Business Unit in Forchheim and, in 2008, CEO of the Imaging & IT Division.
In his spare time, Montag is a huge basketball fan. He was himself a member of the German Junior National Team and has played in both the first and second national basketball leagues.
